Gift Suggestions For Families

Food Options for Sponsors in The Christmas Program:

Sponsors provide a holiday meal for the family they are assigned. We encourage a gift card to a local grocery store so the family can shop for their holiday meal according to their traditions and dietary needs. Our recommended value is $25 per family member (a family of 4 would receive a $100 gift card) to ensure consistency throughout the program. Sponsors may provide food items instead of a grocery voucher if they prefer.

Recommended Foods for Sponsors to Provide

Additional holiday help (3-4 days worth of food)

Sponsors may choose to provide additional help beyond the holiday meal, however this is not a requirement of the program. Suggestions for additional food items include:

  • Peanut butter
  • Soup
  • Canned Meats
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Milk
  • Snacks for children
  • Baby food or formula & diapers (if applicable)
  • Personal items (soaps, shampoo, toilet paper, laundry soap, paper towels, etc.)
  • Femine Hygiene Products
  • Baby Food & Formula

Suggested Gift Items When Sponsoring a Family

Due to Covid-19, we are suggesting sponsors consider providing families with gift cards. Families will then be able to pick out what they want for their children. If you as a sponsor still want to purchase gifts for the children in the family, we ask all our registered households with younger children to fill out a form with their children’s interest, clothes sizes, and gift ideas for each child in the home. That information is given to you the sponsor to help you in your purchasing of gifts for the children. The households are reasonable in their suggestions of interests and gifts.  In-between a 50-50 split or 60-40 food, is the suggested breakdown between cost for food and gifts.
